WLB v BTC
I have often wondered why the phrase “Work Life Balance” is used.
To me it suggests work is not part of life; as though work is something we do whilst not being alive and having a life! “Balanced Time Commitments” (BTC) is, to my mind, a better way of understanding this issue of being time poor.
The fundamental premise here is to understand that we are all a multitude of personas: father, husband, brother, boss, colleague, golfer, etc. We each have our own list.
Two thoughts for balance: know your list and recognise the necessary mix at any given moment in time of your life.
The importance of the elements in the list change and work/ life is just too simplistic to capture the complexity and fluidity involved.

Interesting!
I undestand BTC as a unique way to plan prioritise and integrate all everyday tasks together. It can also serve as a useful concept to help facing external and internal criticism regarding WLB effectively.
